With a total distance of 173 miles /277km, starting in Ravenglass on the western Lake District, the Hadrian’s Wall Cycle Route follows the western coastline up to Carlisle before weaving in and out of the historic route of Hadrians Wall to finish at either Tynemouth or South Shields. The shorter version of the ride starts at Bowness on Solway and misses out the coastal section, thus reducing the distance to 105 miles/168km.
This is a more leisurely ride, still with some challenging climbs to tackle, but there is lots of history to take in, stunning scenery to enjoy and coffee shops to sample!
Along the route you will take in places such as Carlisle Castle, Birdowald, The Roman Army Museum, Vindolanda, Housesteads, Corbridge and Segedunum.
