HOLIDAY OVERVIEW

Wanting to challenge yourself to ride the C2C route, but got that little niggle in your mind that you may struggle either physically, mentally or mechanically and don’t want to find yourself stuck halfway up Hartside with no help around you?

Or perhaps you’re just wanting a bit of company and looking for some likeminded people to ride with?

Yes, it’s a challenging ride.  Yes, there are a good number of hills.

With the help of our excellent guides and also the other riders around you, our fully supported package is the perfect way to get you through it and to the finish line!

The Coast to Coast /C2C/ Sea to Sea Cycle Ride is by far the most popular long distance ride in the country. Starting from the west coast in Cumbria the route takes you through the Northern Lake District, over the back of the Pennine hills before descending to the River Tyne and the east coast.

Cycle Route Highlights
  • Breathtaking views from start to finish
  • The Lakeland town of Keswick
  • The Lake District
  • The wild Alston & Stanhope Moors
  • Ruins of old lead mines
  • The Waskerley Way railway track
  • Newcastle Quayside

MAP & LOCATION

Itinerary

null

Day 1 – Arrival day (Sunday)

  • Join the tour at Whitehaven
  • We will all meet for introductions at 6pm
    • Receive your Pedal Power Cycle Top and Buff
  • You will have time in the evening to relax and explore the town

null

Day 2 (Monday) – Whitehaven to Penrith (53 miles / 86kms)

  • We leave Whitehaven after breakfast at 9am and head down to the start point, normally there by 09:15
  • Start your “Coast to Coast”, “Sea to Sea” ride by “dipping” your rear wheel in the Irish sea at the marina, be careful though because the ramp can be slippy.
  • Following disused railway lines and minor roads all the way to Keswick. There is one significant climb at Whinlatter, with a few minor climbs earlier on. Keswick is a good lunch stop.
  • From Keswick you will head out along the old railway line to Threlkeld
  • The route then traverses parallel to the main A66 road, following tracks and minor roads until you reach the market town of Penrith.

null

Day 3 (Tuesday) – Penrith to Allenheads (34 miles / 54 kms)

We have a slightly later start this morning and will look at departing around 9:30am

  • From Penrith you will see the Pennine hills in front of you to the east. Ride through Langwathby and follow the route up over Hartside, with stunning views looking west on a clear day.
  • From here it’s pretty much downhill all the way to Garrigill.
  • More climbing out of Garrigill and head over the steep 20% climb to Nenthead.
  • It’s then a beautiful roller coaster ride to Allenheads.
  • Keep an eye out for the disused lead mines dotted along the route.

null

Day 4 (Wednesday) – Allenheads to Tynemouth (46 miles / 74 kms)

9am start

The morning starts with a cheekly little hill directly out of Allenheads, however it’s then followed by a stunning, long downhill with breathtaking scenery all the way to Rookhope.

Another hill out of Rookhope before descending into Stanhope.

Probably the toughest climb of the whole route is out of Stanhope, it’s called Crawleyside Bank and takes you up onto Stanhope Moor and The Waskerley Way (disused railway line)

After that it’s pretty much downhill all the way to the River Tyne at Swalwell. From there you follow the river, through Newcastle, past all the bridges to finish on the north side of the river at Tynemouth.

The transport will depart around 4pm for either Newcastle Train Station or back to Whitehaven if required.
