HOLIDAY OVERVIEW
The Condensed Hadrians Cycleway is a Coast to Coast ride with a difference, the beauty of this ride is not the achievement of riding from the west coast to the east coast of England, but in the fact that you have ridden and seen the living history of Hadrians Wall
Built by the Emperor Hadrian from AD122, this 74 mile defensive wall was constructed over a 6 year period to defend the northern edge of the Roman Empire from the invading barbarians in the North. It consisted of 13 imposing forts along the route, as well as mile turrets and defensive walls up to 5 metres high and 2 metres thick.
This condensed route (101 miles) starts in the little hamlet of Bowness on Solway, which is officially the western most point of the original Wall, from here its a 90 min ride to Carlisle and onwards east, passing some of the best sections of Hadrians Wall and some very rural countryside, before joining the River Tyne which takes you all the way through Newcastle upon Tyne to Tynemouth and the end of the route.
