HOLIDAY OVERVIEW
This 117 mile (188kms), undulating (2540m ascent) circular loop of Shropshire & the Welsh Borders starts in the historic Shropshire county town of Shrewsbury, famous for its well preserved Tudor period properties and it’s links to Charles Darwin.
From here the route heads out in an anti-clockwise direction, west along well signed Sustrans Cycleways and narrow lanes to cross the border into the Welsh county of Powys and the market town of Welshpool (Y Trallwng).
Cross back into England and pass through the lovely villages of Montgomery with it’s castle dominating the skyline, to Bishops Castle, known for it’s alternative community of artists, musicians, writers and craftsmen.
The historic centre of Shropshire, Ludlow is the next major town on the route, with it’s over 500 listed properties, many black and white Tudor buildings, magnificent castle and a vibrant food scene.
You will join the banks of the River Severn at Bridgnorth and follow the valley to Ironbridge, which as its name suggests is the location of the first ever iron built bridge in the world, built in 1779.
It’s then a meandering ride along cycleways back to your start point of Shrewsbury.

Day 3 – Ride from Welshpool, via Montgomery and Bishops Castle to Ludlow – (Dist – 37 miles / 60 kms; Ascent – 3900ft / 1188m)
Day 4 – Ride from Ludlow, via Bridgnorth to Ironbridge – (Dist – 32 miles / 51 kms; Ascent – 1382ft / 420m)
Day 5 – Ride from IronBridge to Shrewsbury – (Dist – 22 miles / 35 kms; Ascent – 1234ft / 376m)
